Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Supervisor's Message

As COVID-19 (AKA the Coronavirus) enters New York State, and the number of confirmed cases continues to increase, State and County leaders advise that dealing with the infection in New York communities is "not a matter of 'if', but 'when'."

While we’re doing our best for the Town, when it comes to health the most effective strategies start with the individual. In order for everyone to stay healthy, we must all take independent steps to make sure we understand the situation at hand and how to best manage it. Here are some tips on things you can do to make sure you stay healthy:

1. Study up on COVID-19, its symptoms, and its methods of transmission (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov)

2. Bring personal hygiene products with you. A small bottle of personal hand sanitizer and a pocket-sized package of tissues are excellent starting points.

3. Wash your hands regularly. If you deal with a lot of money in your position, wear disposable gloves. These will also be made available at Town Hall.

4. If you’re feeling unwell, stay home. Prevention starts with caution. If it ends up being a 24-hour bug, it’s better to know that after the fact than risk infecting others.

5. The EPA has provided a list of approved antimicrobial products for use against COVID-19 (https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2020-03/documents/sars-cov-2-list_03-03-2020.pdf)

6. For further information visit the COVID-19 page on Ulster County’s website.

We are also coordinating closely with Ulster County and have attended a tabletop session to further help us prepare for increases in COVID-19 infections. As the situation develops, we will keep you informed of any critical information.

Thank you,

Al Lanzetta, Supervisor
